Police in Zimbabwe arrested 16,290 illegal miners - mostly gold panners - in a blitz that began just over a month ago, it was reported yesterday. More than three kilos of gold, about 470 tonnes of gold ore, 4,876 diamonds and 20 emeralds were recovered, a police spokesman told The Herald, a government newspaper.
