Dec. 27--The Major Indoor Soccer League standings don't paint as bleak a picture for the California Cougars as their recent play would suggest.

The Cougars have lost seven of their past eight games but trail the Detroit Ignition by only two games for the fourth and final playoff spot. California (3-7) is in last place in the six-team MISL, but a turnaround could begin when it hosts the Ignition at 7 p.m. on Friday.
