Caribbean fruit flies pose a major threat to fruit growers because many countries do not allow fruit fly-infested crops into their markets. Moreover, these countries impose strict rules which limit the use of pesticides on imported fruits. Consequently, research is being conducted to study the feasibility of using the Diaschasmimorpha longicaudata wasp to control fruit flies.
