You have to admire the audacity of director David Greenspan in attempting a revival of William Congreve's "The Way of the World."

Greenspan's nerve can carry him only so far, but what he has put on stage at the New York Shakespeare Festival is a credible, if not completely successful, attempt to come to terms with this difficult Restoration comedy.

In comparison with "Gonza the Lancer," and "Dead Mother," his last two Public Theater productions, "The Way of the World" is a model of restraint and good ...
