SAN ANTONIO, TEX. -- A high level of clinical acumen is crucial to the early diagnosis of serious hypersensitivity reactions to antiepileptic drugs, Dr. Adelaide A. Hebert said at a meeting sponsored by Skin Disease Education Foundation.
Her take-home message was this: "If your front desk gets a call from a neurologist and it may be one of these hypersensitivity reactions, you need to see the patient right away to avoid a life-threatening reaction, and to rule out a more simple contact dermatitis."
