U.S. wine production increased 8.6% to 448 million gallons in 1993. Annual production during the past five years averaged 418 million gallons. In recent years, the grape concentrate market has accounted for a significant portion of the grape crush. A survey of major California concentrate producers shows that the number of equivalent tons of grapes crushed during crop year 1993 for marketing as concentrate was 470,000 tons. Grapes crushed for concentrate during crop years 1990 and 1991, and 1992 were 463,000 tons, 464,000 tons, and 652,000 tons respectively.
