'HIZZONER!' LACKS SUBSTANCE OF LAGUARDIA'S REAL LIFE.(Weekend)

Despite the exclamation point, there's not much to cheer in "Hizzoner!" - a one-man show based on the life of Fiorello H. LaGuardia.
The play, which opened Thursday at Broadway's Longacre Theater, seems like a textbook recitation about one of New York's most famous and colorful mayors. Little of that color comes through in playwright Paul Shyre's theatrical biography, which smacks of extensive research but little imagination.
