UNION STUDYING FRACTAL GEOMETRY.(Living Today)

The Union College physics and mathematics departments recently received a $59,140 National Science Foundation grant to develop a laboratory for undergraduate study of fractal geometry and chaos.

Fractal geometry, which was championed by Frenchman Benoit Mandelbrot in the 1970s, gives mathematicians a way to describe the structure of objects that appear irregular and disorderly, but have an underlying "self-similarity."
