The honey market is worth 29 million pounds sterling in the UK and is expected to grow because of consumer demands for natural and healthy products, according to the British Honey Importers and Packers Association (BHIPA). Total UK consumption is 30,000 tonnes, with about 25,000 tonnes imported from Canada, Australia, Mexico, Argentina and China. Honey is used mainly as a spread, although it is also used for medicinal and health purposes.
