Mayor-elect David Dinkins today offered to bring New Yorkers together and reject the negative brickbats strewn along the path to City Hall.

"We held to the high road and we proved that it is the right road to victory," Dinkins told a cheering crowd in his early-morning acceptance speech at the Sheraton Centre.

"And whatever the final margin, I like to think that we won a great victory against the division and suspicion."
