On June 27, a gala dinner was held for Ed Capano, at Paone's restaurant, blocks from NATIONAL REVIEW offices. Ed has retired, after a career of 45 years at NR. He started in the mailroom; he ended as publisher and CEO. Actually, he will continue on our board--that career is not yet over. At his dinner, many remarks were given, all of them good. (Some of them in verse!) Among the speakers were Ed's children. One of them, Elizabeth, said that she always thought of her father as like a great willow, beneath which she could shelter in a storm.
