Dec. 12--Catholic churches throughout the world today will celebrate a miracle that occurred almost 500 years ago and helped to shape the devotion of a country and faith. According to religious doctrine and legend, la Virgen de Guadalupe appeared to Juan Diego at Tepeyac Hill on Dec. 12, 1531, outside Mexico City and told him to build a church. Local churches will hold processions and elaborate celebrations to commemorate the event. Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, at 1200 E.
