This is one spruce tree that's going out in a blaze of glory.

Gerri Frey realized earlier this year that the giant spruce in her Naperville yard was destined for the chopping block because it was crowding a nearby maple. But she couldn't bear the thought of her beloved tree being reduced to simple yard waste. It deserved a proper goodbye.

"That tree means something to us," Frey said of the spruce, which her family planted 23 years ago along Chestnut Ridge Drive. "It's older than our kids."
