The Vatican Library, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and IBM are beginning a special project to develop a scanned, high-resolution database of the Vatican Library's collection. The pilot database will contain digital images of books, manuscripts and art and a machine-readable card catalog of the library. If the database is successful, the project will consider making this database available on CD-ROM and online networks.
