Adlai E. Stevenson's main influence on the presidential election of Grover Cleveland in 1892 was his ability to bring in the Southern vote. He did so by practicing compromise in a time of strong political divisions in the South. Cleveland believed that the historically Democratic South would vote for him and that he did not need to compromise.
