The province of Antwerp in Belgium has a long and interesting history of gold and silver production. Much that was manufactured in what was a flourishing silvermaking region in the Middle Ages was lost in the many wars that later ravaged the area. By the sixteenth century, the Flemish baroque style was well established and had a strong influence on, for example, English silverware.
