Cyrus Vance Award named for former U.S. secretary of state.

Dec. 3--The West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts has been presenting the Cyrus Vance Award for International Education in West Virginia since 2001.

It was named for Clarksburg native Cyrus Roberts Vance, who devoted nearly 50 years of his life to international diplomacy and peacekeeping efforts, according to the award brochure.

The first award was presented in 2001. It was expanded to two awards in 2005, one to a K-12 educator or educational organization; the second to a postsecondary educator or educational organization.
