Critic, intellectual and author Irving Howe helped immigrant Jews in the US gain a more objective view of life and find stability through his many works. Throughout his life, Howe has always adopted a humane and compassionate attitude and sought to preserve the vitality of the experience of immigrant Jews in New York. He deeply believed in Jewish socialism and considered powerlessness, helplessness, dispossession and the dignity of the insulted as the hallmarks of Yiddish literature.
