The concept of the chosen people: an interpretation.

An analysis of the concept of the 'Chosen People' and dominant themes relating to it shows that 'chosenness' should not be equated with Jewish superiority. Instead, it should be seen as an internally-directed responsibility for Jews to abide by moral and ethical principles stipulated by God. 'Chosenness,' which has been central to the centuries old dispute between Jews and Christians, should always be viewed in relation to the concept of a special covenantal relationship with God.
