The sonic dryer uses sound waves and heat to preserve food and make it lighter for shipping. The new process avoids the high temperatures of conventional dryers and retains the flavor, nutrients and color of the product.

A new machine uses sound as well as heat to dry foods such as orange juice, corn syrup, tomato paste, and molasses for the first time without using additives.
