Ipswich relied on its offense to get into position to win the Cape Ann League Small title. But it was the defense that saved the day when the Tigers needed saving most.

In a winner-take-all Thanksgiving showdown with Hamilton-Wenham, Ipswich pitched a 7-0 shutout to advance to the Division 3A playoffs today against Manchester/Essex (4:30 p.m., Acton-Boxboro).
