Nov. 28--TRENTON -- Democratic lawmakers say they're poised to quickly pass legislation approving civil unions -- not gay marriage -- to meet a recent state Supreme Court mandate requiring New Jersey to give gay couples the same legal rights as straight couples. Gay-rights groups, however, say they hope lobbying from some of the thousands of homosexual families in New Jersey will persuade legislators to vote for marriage.
