DAVID CAMERON launched a raid into traditional Labour territory yesterday by offering to embrace Leftwing views on poverty.

The Tory leader issued a defiant pledge to redraw his party's approach to the gap between rich and poor.

And he capped a series of provocative remarks about welfare policy by inviting Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee to speak at the Conservative conference.

Mr Cameron's flirtation with one of Labour's most enthusiastic and influential commentators has astonished Rightwing Tories.
