While fishermen spend their time on the ocean's surface, they make their money beneath the surface, and for that, they need to know all they can about the ocean floor. Any number of excellent navigation charting software programs can help you get from point A to point B, but they are of little help in telling you where to run your gear. Fishermen need depth and topographical characteristics as well as the sea bottom's composition. Is it mud, sand, silt, gravel or something else?
