    PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti _ Haiti assaults the senses. 
    Garbage rots in the sun. Exhaust fumes redden eyes. Dust cakes hair. And the nightly gunfire races hearts. 
    And so then, a forest in the grim squalor of Port-au- Prince feels like the most luxurious place in the world. 
    It is an endangered Eden, 30 acres of dense jungle, fruit trees, natural springs and swimming pools on one side of the street _ and on the other side five acres with a grand archway covered in a pinkish-red bougainvillea spectabilis that opens to the stone-and-plaster house of dance legend Katherine Dunham.  ...
