An animated film about a larger-than-life middle aged heroine called Beryl has automatically qualified for the first stages of the Oscar awards ceremony after winning Europe's top animation award, the Cartoon D'Or. Beryl, Y Briodas a'r Fideo/Dreams & Desires - Family Ties a film by twice Oscar-nominated Joanna Quinn, was awarded the Cartoon D'Or - whose previous winners include Nick Park for Chicken Run - at the Cartoon Forum in Pau, France.
