THE 313-ton Lady Jane was the best known of the Tyneside whalers.

She was already an old ship when she began whaling from the Tyne in 1804, having been built in 1772.

In 1813 the Lady Jane was the most successful vessel in the national whaling fleet, earning pounds 13,000. Her owners included William Linskill of Tynemouth Lodge and Quentin Blackburn.
