RACE watchdogs are examining a reissued edition of The Dandy's 1939 Chistmas annual after claims that it contains racist language.

The classic children's comic, which was first published in 1937, showcases the cartoon antics of Desperate Dan, Korky the Cat and Keyhole Kate.

Early editions are hotly pursued by collectors, with one sold last year for [pounds sterling]20,000.

The reprint of the 1939 annual, published in time for Christmas, features the Smarty Grandpa comic strip, in which the word 'n*****' is used four times.
