A one-year postdoctoral fellowship has been established at Duke University for outstanding young social scientists studying race, ethnicity and gender.

Dr. Samuel DuBois Cook, a distinguished political scientist, educator and human rights activist, was Duke's first Black and tenured faculty member and the first Black to hold a regular faculty appointment at any predominantly White college or university in the South.
