The works of George McNeil are often figurative, rather than 'Abstract Expressionist' as perceived by many. McNeil belongs to that breed of senior artists whose work is admired by younger ones. He professes to feeling no kinship with the expressionism of younger painters, however. Liveliness is a trademark of his paintings, so much so that people are surprised to see that he is well beyond middle age.
