Nov. 3--Dr. Arthur W. Boddie Jr. was a third-generation physician who chose cancer treatment as his specialty after his mother died of the disease. Dr. Boddie went on to serve as vice chairman of the department of surgical oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Boddie, 64, of Riverside died Sunday, Oct. 22, of complications related to frontal temporal lobe dementia in Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said his wife, Joy. Dr. Boddie retired from UIC in 2004 because of the effects of dementia.
