Preparation is vital to the success of any journey, especially when one is dealing with a faraway land and 700 sixth graders. After making contact with people who have been to Africa, and keeping up with the current events of the region, we were ready for our journey to begin.

Only we didn't really go to Africa. Africa came to us this year in a variety of theatre, music, dance and art experiences; through lessons in geography, history, and science; and through the Lost Boys, young men who spoke to captivated sixth graders about their lonely and dangerous escape at age eleven ...
