The Philippines should at least double its fertilizer use (which is presently among the lowest among farming countries) if only to help raise its rice self-sufficiency and boost farm production.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) indicated that consumption of fertilizer nutrients correlates strongly to the farm output in most countries.
