Harsh Vardhan Shringla hit the ground running on his arrival in Durban in August.

Since then the 44-year-old diplomat has apparently kept up the pace.

As Consul-General of India in Durban his first task was to oversee the state visit of Indian Prime Minister Monmohan Singh.

Shringla, who is married with an 8-year-old son, is every bit the diplomat: polite, articulate and engaging.

His previous posting was at the United Nations in New York, which might make Durban seem like a bit of a backwater.
