Oct. 30--Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi's newly finished four-billion-baht upgrade will help Chiang Mai in its struggle to drop its reputation as a backpacker destination.

The completion of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group's first deluxe resort in Asia contributes to a handful of current high-end offerings in Chiang Mai. It comes in the wake of emerging new five-star hotel-resort development schemes aimed at establishing the northern city in the high-end market.
