Crisis/hostage negotiation team profile.

Law enforcement agencies convened in a seminar to develop a crisis negotiation survey in an effort to collect information on how to safely and effectively conduct crisis negotiation activities. The survey, which were answered by 100 hostage negotiation team leaders, focused on demographic and functional aspects of the negotiations. Results revealed the absence of a standard negotiator selection policy, which governs the selection and training of team members. Although the FBI provides initial training, it is rarely followed up by other negotiating teams.
