Oct. 29--Moccasin Creek's bad reputation dates to Aberdeen's earliest days. Aberdeen was incorporated in 1882. Just six years later, the city built its first sewer system. A 3,200-feet-long pipe from the city pump house discharged sewage straight into the creek. It wasn't until 1910 that a sewage treatment plant was built south of town.

Today, the abuse continues. But instead of sewage, people toss tires, aluminum cans and plenty of other forms of trash into the creek.
