Auburn city councilors held off voting to appoint a new fire chief at Thursday's council meeting.

Interim City Manager Michael Long requested the resolution be pulled until after the city's Civil Service Commission meets. The commission is holding a special meeting at 11a.m. Monday to talk about the position, Long said.

Councilors would only have been able to appoint Charles Michael Hammon, a Batavia fire captain, on a provisional basis. Hammon is not on the local civil service list for fire chief.
