Even in this age of instant images, old-fashioned printmaking remains among the most intimate and appealing of art forms. Drawn on a lithographic stone, chemically etched onto a scratched metal plate, or gouged into a slab of wood, fine-print images carry the mark of the artist's hand and communicate in a directly personal way. Does the personal touch matter? Hard to say. Ultimately only the image counts. But the hand brings out the nuances of an image - the shadows and marks, the flare of color, the bite of ink pressed into a ridge or crease. ...
