A BROWNHILLS teenager who smashed a 5ft long spirit level on the head of a man fighting his friend has avoided a prison sentence.

Robert Mousley was knocked unconscious by the blow and, as he fell to the ground, he snapped his ankle and had to spend three days in hospital, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Mark Brandon lashed out with the spirit level because he felt Jamie Humphries was coming off worse in his scuffle with Mr Mousley, who was over 6ft and weighed 20 stone, said Ian Ball, defending.

"He acted impulsively. It was a momentary aberration," he said.
