THE BANQUET' (Ye Yan) is an elaborately produced Chinese costume film loosely based on William Shakespeare's "Hamlet." The dialogue is in Mandarin with English subtitles. The role of Hamlet, though, is diminished and the character with the bigger part is that of Gertrude, played here by Asian superstar Ziyi Zhang. Those who think this is an action film will be somewhat disappointed. It has some Matrix-like action scenes, but it's actually more of a tragic drama where everyone dies.
