Accurate measures of physical activity are needed to elucidate the relationship between physical activity and health. In children, objective measures are preferred, as children lack the cognitive ability to recall details of their physical activity patterns accurately (Welk, Corbin & Dale, 2000). Several researchers have shown that to obtain a reliable measure of physical activity using accelerometry or pedometry, 4-5 days of monitoring are needed (Gretebeck & Montoye, 1992; Janz, Witt & Mahoney, 1995; Trost, Pate, Freedson, Sallis & Taylor, 2000), and weekend days as well as week ...
