American Crystal revises contingency plan for beet harvest.

Oct. 24--MOORHEAD, Minn. -- American Crystal cut its contingency plan Oct. 17 for destroying beets to 8 percent of its acres and again has delayed making a final decision to plow them under.

The plow-under contingency plan originally was announced for up to 10 percent of acres in mid-August. The 8 percent level means 40,560 acres could be destroyed.

"Given the deliveries to date, the company has decided to release 2 percent of the reserved acres," Crystal says in a news release.

"Shareholders may deliver this 2 percent as harvest conditions ...
