What Is Dentin Hypersensitivity?
Dentin hypersensitivity is defined as a short, sharp pain arising from exposed dentin in response to stimuli, which cannot be ascribed to any other form of dental defect or pathology. (1)
The hydrodynamic theory helps explain why dentin hypersensitivity occurs. According to the theory, fluid within the dentinal tubules can flow in either an inward or outward direction depending on pressure differences in the surrounding tissue.
