CHICAGO _ The hiring of Lou Piniella on Tuesday overshadowed Larry Rothschild's return to the Cubs for two more seasons.
But as new manager Piniella pointed out repeatedly, he's not autocratic and will rely heavily on his pitching coach to run the staff as he sees fit.
In essence, it seems Rothschild will have even more authority under Piniella than he did under Dusty Baker, and the two-year deal gives him the security he seemed to lack in `06.
