Ernest Thornhill of West Dover, Nova Scotia, receives Canada's second highest civilian honor, the George Medal. When the Cape Agulhas sank off Portuguese Cove, Nova Scotia, last January, Thornhill reportedly jumped from the ship with a lifeline, swam ashore and attached the line to a rocky cliff.
