Oct. 12--Alexander II Magnet School in Macon was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education Thursday.

Schools receive the honor, in part, if at least 40 percent of their low-income students make dramatic improvements on state exams.

Alexander II is a math and science magnet school with 579 students.
