Lloyd's of London CEO Peter Middleton, in remarks at the British Insurance and Investment Brokers Ass annual conference, said that Lloyd's was planning to increase the standards of its insurance underwriters. While Middleton did not specifically say what Lloyd's would do to eliminate bad underwriters, it is rumored that the venerable property-casualty insurance market will license lead underwriters so that only the best underwriters will lead an insurance program. Middleton believes that Lloyd's can no longer allow poor underwriters to undermine the integrity of the insurer.
