Oct. 6--EAST CHICAGO -- Mittal Steel USA is indefinitely idling one blast furnace at its Indiana Harbor plant as well as one in Cleveland, a move that indicates weak demand for light, flat-rolled products.
Lowering supply is a way to keep prices from falling.
The company has not determined which of the blast furnaces will be idled, company spokesman David Allen said Thursday. There are two furnaces at Indiana Harbor West and three at Indiana Harbor East, with the combined production capacity of about 25,000 tons of hot metal ...
