Giant clams, abalone now cultured in Biliran town.(Provincial News)

NAVAL, Biliran --- The highly priced abalone, sold in Hong Kong for US$ 200 per serving, and the rare giant clams (tilang) are now thriving in the fish sanctuaries in Barangays Imelda and Mabini of Higatangan Island, according to Leilani O. Comadizo, chief of the fisheries section of this province.

The species are being cultured in cages in both sanctuaries, and once they proliferate will be distributed to seven other fish sanctuaries in this island province for propagation.
